Australia and its neighbour New Guinea are
blessed with a range of fishes both large and small that are found nowhere else
.
A group of these fishes come in such a range
a of colours that they have quite rightly become known as rainbowfishes. All the
colours of the rainbow have been duplicated in this group of fish with some
attempting to cram the whole spectrum onto a single fish! The added bonus
is that they come in a range of sizes to suit almost any aquarium situation.
In comparison the other groups of native
fish most commonly kept in aquaria reach quite gargantuan proportions. Though
these other natives cannot match the rainbowfishes in the colour stakes their
interesting habits and impressive size more than makes up for the shortfall. A
number of these big guys have so much character that they become a focal point
of conversation just by being themselves.
